A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE RIVER Mayenne
The Mayenne River, formerly known Meduana, is at the origin of the economic development of the city of Laval. From the 16th century, the river becomes a vital transportation link to the Loire Valley. The barges were pulled by horses on the towpath which runs alongside the watercourse for 50 miles. Today, tradiung barges have given way to pleasure boats and the horses peacefully transport tourists along the leafy waterways.
